Blackburn Rovers agree new deal with manager Tony Mowbray

Manager Tony Mowbray has put pen to paper on a fresh two year deal with Blackburn Rovers, who will be plying their trade in the League One for the first time in 37 years.

The 53-year-old initially succeeded Owen Coyle in February where he joined on an 18-month contract.

The Rovers manage to show decent form under Mowbray with five wins and seven draws in 15 outings, but this was not sufficient to keep them in the Championship as their fellow rivals Nottingham Forest and Birmingham City kept their nerve in the final stages of the season.

Mowbray held crunch discussions with the Venky’s in Pune last month, and he has now agreed upon a new contract which could be further extended by 12 months. Speaking after his renewal, the former West Brom boss insisted that the promotion to the second tier remains his first agenda.

He told the club’s official website: “The job is to bounce back straight away. I needed some reassurances that we wouldn’t be selling all of our players and that we had some budget to try to strengthen the team if we could, having lost 12 players through either loans going back or people out of contract.” Continue reading Blackburn Rovers agree new deal with manager Tony Mowbray

MOWBRAY REMAINS HOPEFUL

Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray is keeping his hopes up despite the recent poor performances of the team.

There are five league games left in the English Championship and with Rovers being four points from safety, the future seems clear enough.

The defeat to Burnley at home stole the team‘s confidence and left the fans distraught. It is the third successive loss for the struggling side. Brighton & Hove Albion defeated them by a lone goal while Reading thrashed them 3-1. The 2-0 home loss to Barnsley leaves them in real threat of moving to the third tier of the English Football League.

Since Mowbray took over, the team has won just 11 points out of 30. He was charged with reviving the team but he has supervised losses and draws since March 4.

“We know we have to get results in the next two games against teams that are struggling a little bit. It won’t be through the lack of trying,” the manager who was appointed on February 22 said. Continue reading MOWBRAY REMAINS HOPEFUL

WES BROWN BACK TO BLACKBURN ROVERS

Former Three Lions defender Wes Brown is set to join Blackburn Rovers, according to reports.

The Englishman’s talks with the club were confirmed by Coach Owen Coyle. Coyle told BBC Radio: “As soon as I get the green light from the owners that I can get that over the mine, I’ll pursue it vigorously. The proposal has been sent, it’s just to come back with a yes or no. We kick on from there.”

Wes Brown, 36, started his career at Manchester united. He started with the youth setup before breaking into the senior team in the 1996/97 season. He moved away to Sunderland in 2011 but remains unattached this season after his exit from the Premier League. Rovers have been linked with a transfer, and Coyle admitted that it is now up to the management to allow the deal. Continue reading WES BROWN BACK TO BLACKBURN ROVERS

Owen Coyle return to English football after joining Blackburn Rovers

Former Bolton manager Owen Coyle his return to English football after joining Blackburn Rovers on a two-year contract.

He was last seen in English football with Wigan Athletic in 2014. In the last two years, he has been managing MLS outfit Houston Dynamo. It has helped him stay away from the limelight especially after poor spells with Bolton and Wigan. Fans remained divided about his opinion, but Coyle says that he is extremely positive about being successful at Ewood Park. That has been a lot of discontent amongst fans over the regime of the Indian owners.

Constant managerial changes coupled with less transfer money available for the manager has resulted in the club only managing mid-table finishers in the last few seasons. The possibility of Blackburn returning to the Premier League seems like a distant dream at the moment.Coyle, though, reiterated his belief that the club will be able to achieve promotion next season. The belief will be translated to fans only if the club spend big in this upcoming transfer window.Coyle says that even the appointment of a top manager like José Mourinho will not have pacified the supporters at this moment. A few Rovers fans recently came out with an online petition calling for the club to reconsider their decision to appointCoyle. Paul Lambert sees Tough Life in Championship next season

Blackburn Rovers manager Paul Lambert says that his former club Aston Villa can expect a very tough life in the Championship next season.

Villa have been relegated to the second tier of English football for the first time since 1987. The club have had a rich history of doing well during this period, but they have consistently been struggling against the threat of relegation in the last four seasons. Lambert did his best to narrowly avoided relegation but two managerial changes in the 2015-16 season seems to have done its job. Villa have not only been relegated, but they surrendered meekly in the process.

The club face an uncertain future in almost every department. Several players have already turned into rebels and have expressed their desire to leave the club at the end of the campaign. Villa have struggled to attract a permanent manager due to concerns about lack of funds to make any significant impact next season. Owner Randy Lerner has already put up the club for sale but he has struggled to find any buyers for his asking price of £ 200 million. The American is unwilling to invest any more of his personal fortune into the dwindling club. For these reasons and the possibility of more than 50 games (league and cup competitions combined), Lambert says that next season will be very tough for Villa.
