Blackburn ready to challenge for Premier League

Blackburn Rovers are ready to get back into the Premier League and former captain Scott Dann says that manager Gary Bowyer is the right man for the job. Blackburn have been in the Championship for the last couple of seasons. They have failed to sustain a challenge for the promotion spots in both attempts. This year will be very crucial for the club given that the parachute payments are set to run out soon. Hence, Bowyer is out to get the club back into the Premier League and they have made a mediocre start to the season. Despite this mediocre start, which sees them mid-table after 11 matches, Dann says that Blackburn will come good eventually.

Last season, the defender left Blackburn in order to join Crystal Palace during the January transfer window. His move may have left the manager with only seven defenders at his disposal, but more importantly, the sale of the captain appears to have affected the side in a defensive sense. Dann, though, says that he found it extremely hard to leave Ewood Park in the first place, but since they looked unlikely to getting promoted to the Premier League, the chance to play in the top league once again proved very elusive.

“With the squad they’ve got now and the type of lads Gary has brought in, and the coaching staff, I definitely think things have taken a turn for the better. And given time, with that squad, I think they’ve got a good chance of getting back into the Premier League. Hopefully that can be this season. I enjoyed my time there, I was captain, so to leave a big club like Blackburn is never easy. I wanted to play in the Premier League and at the time it didn’t seem like we were going to get there last season,” said Dann.
