The FA Cup third round tie between hosts Wigan Athletic and Blackburn Rovers was a duel between one of the pacesetters in League One and one of the pacesetters in the Championship. Wigan Athletic are one of the leading teams in the third tier of English football and they are perfectly placed to make an assault on promotion to the Championship, while Blackburn Rovers are presently second on the Championship table and in one of the two automatic promotion slots for the Premier League.

Wigan Athletic and Blackburn Rovers scored all their goals in second half when they meet to fight for a place in the fourth round of the FA Cup. After a goalless first half, German player RedaKhadra scored the first goal of the game four minutes into the second half to give the Championship side the lead. The Blackburn advantage lasted for just twelve (12) minutes before the home team fought back to restore parity through Max Power. The equaliser from Power came just after the hour mark. The Wigan Athletic star has now scored in three successive games for the League One club.

Hosts Wigan Athletic took the lead in the game for the first time when Jack Whatmough scored with fifteen(15) minutes lefton the clock. Blackburn Rovers were able to draw themselves level with a minute to go through defender Daniel Ayala only for them to concede a stoppage time winner to ThiloAasgaard. Aasgaard scored in the 94th minute to send Wigan Athletic through to the fourth round. The Latics would be in the hat for the fourth round draw billed for Sunday.
