Richie Smallwood And Danny Graham Visited Fall Boy Leon Langford’s School

Rovers duo Danny Graham and Richie Smallwood visited the school of a nine-year-old boy who fell through a factory roof to discuss the importance of safety. Leon Langford recovers in hospital after sustaining a head injury after the incident in business premises on Rockfield Street. Headteacher Paul Haythornthwaite, a Rover’s seasonal ticketholder, gave an update on the condition of Longshaw Community Junior school students, with the young who faces a long way to recovery.

A Rovers player is set to visit Leon at a hospital at a later time, with Graham and Smallwood promoting the message of security and resilience for an hour’s session. “It was a nice message and it was great to see the kids show our faces, and I hope the kids had a good day,” said Rovers’s attacker. “It was good to talk about resilience and highlight what is required to be successful. I have children back home and I know the football club is doing a lot of this sort of thing around the Blackburn area. It’s nice to come out and put some smile on the child’s faces, and they actually take things in what has been said, that’s a good day.”

Blackburn ready to challenge for Premier League

Blackburn Rovers are ready to get back into the Premier League and former captain Scott Dann says that manager Gary Bowyer is the right man for the job. Blackburn have been in the Championship for the last couple of seasons. They have failed to sustain a challenge for the promotion spots in both attempts. This year will be very crucial for the club given that the parachute payments are set to run out soon. Hence, Bowyer is out to get the club back into the Premier League and they have made a mediocre start to the season. Despite this mediocre start, which sees them mid-table after 11 matches, Dann says that Blackburn will come good eventually.

Last season, the defender left Blackburn in order to join Crystal Palace during the January transfer window. His move may have left the manager with only seven defenders at his disposal, but more importantly, the sale of the captain appears to have affected the side in a defensive sense. Dann, though, says that he found it extremely hard to leave Ewood Park in the first place, but since they looked unlikely to getting promoted to the Premier League, the chance to play in the top league once again proved very elusive.

“With the squad they’ve got now and the type of lads Gary has brought in, and the coaching staff, I definitely think things have taken a turn for the better. And given time, with that squad, I think they’ve got a good chance of getting back into the Premier League. Hopefully that can be this season. I enjoyed my time there, I was captain, so to leave a big club like Blackburn is never easy. I wanted to play in the Premier League and at the time it didn’t seem like we were going to get there last season,” said Dann.

Bowyer under heavy pressure

Blackburn manager Gary Bowyer is a man under pressure, as he aims to take this team on a consistent run of form in order to achieve promotion back to the Premier League. Blackburn have been coming over close enough to the play-offs to challenge for a return. This season is extremely important for the former Premier League champions given that the parachute payment is set to run out soon. This would put them at a disadvantage compared to the newly relegated teams. Ahead of the match with Derby on Wednesday night, Bowyer says that the extra rest that his team gets because of the fixture list may prove crucial.

One fiercely contested fixtures during the course of a season, Bowyer says that it is always an advantage to have extra rest ahead of such a match. Derby could only manage 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest in the latest league match on Sunday, but Blackburn had 24 hours extra rest since their game against Wigan was on Saturday. A 3-1 win with the likes of Ben Marshall and Jordan Rhodes on the scoresheet provides a lot of positivity to Bowyer’s team ahead of the encounter. Consistency has been a problem for Blackburn this season, but they go in search of the second consecutive win.

“It definitely makes a difference that you get 24 hours more rest after the two games that the teams played. You watched the Forest game on the Sunday and it was a typical east Midlands derby. It was fierce, had high energy and emotionally as well they are tough games. To have 24 hours of extra rest could prove vital for us. The fact we’ve had 24 hours of extra rest will only come to our advantage if we go out and perform. That’s the main thing – we’ve got to go out and perform and build on Saturday’s performance,” said Bowyer.

BENAGLIO RETIRES

Diego Benaglio, the shot stopper of the Switzerland national football team, has called time on his international career.

The 30-year old Wolfsburg man remained the no. 1 goalie for his national team for a period of over 10 years. He won a total of 61 caps for Switzerland. Benaglio played his last match in Switzerland jersey last month against Argentina in the pre quarter final round of the FIFA World Cup 2014. Continue reading BENAGLIO RETIRES

Spence Under Review By Bowyer

Jordan Spence would be spending a few days training with Blackburn Rovers. The Blue and Whites’ manager, Gary Bowyer, wants to have a look at him. If he gets impressed by the young defender, he would offer him a contract.

Spence had been a West Ham United player for the last 7 years, but, he hardly featured for the Irons in this period of time. He played only 7 league matches for them. He spent a large part of his tenure playing for other clubs on loan.

The Englishman is out of contract at West Ham now which means that he is available for free.

According to the reports, Spence would make an appearance for the Rovers in their friendly match against Bury FC next week. His performance in that match will be under the scrutiny.

Meanwhile, the Rovers are finding themselves in trouble ahead of the pre season. Six-seven players in their camp are ill at the moment. They are believed to have an upset stomach. There is a big possibility that they would be missing the game against Bury.

Gary Bowyer told the reporters yesterday about the chaos created in the Rovers’ camp because of illness.

In the words of Bowyer, “Some of the boys are struggling with a bit of stomach problem. I think six or seven are suffering from it and they are likely to be out on Wednesday. It’s blessing in disguise you can say because you can test your youngsters out in such situations.”

After the Bury game, the Rovers would play one more pre-season game i.e., against Stoke City on Sunday.

In their first championship game of the 2014-15 Season, the Rovers would be facing Cardiff City on their home ground on the 8th of August.

BACKBURN MISS OUT

Blackburn Rovers failed to earn a promotion spot as well as a play-off position in the Championship League but according to the coach of club Gary Bowyer stated that this season should still be viewed as a success and the team should build upon their recent improvements.

Rovers concluded the campaign by securing their 3rd successive triumph against Wigan Athletic as they added 3 more points to their total of 70 points which is considerably more than what they managed to secure during the previous season.

Bowyer said: “The progress we’ve made is down to a lot of people. The backroom staff and the players, they’ve really bought into what we want to try and do and achieve. We all know what this club has been through and we can’t rest, we’ve got a hell of a lot to do’’.

With the Financial Fair Play coming into full effect in January, Gary Bowyer is expected to trim the squad but the English tactician revealed that he is not under any kind of pressure on releasing some of his big and key players.

“I`ve got a trip planned to India but there`s no indication from the owners at all that we`ve got to sell any of our assets. We`ve got to trim the squad, that`s for sure, and there are additions I`d like to bring to the team. We will work very hard to make sure we have a good summer.” Bowyer added on.

There are a number of on loan players which will be returning to their parent clubs but there are others that Bowyer is interested in keeping on an extended period of time.

LOOKING GOOD

After a few weeks where they looked like getting into the play-offs to challenge a return to the Premier league, things are going wrong at Ewood Park after Blackburn lost yet another match in the league. Their latest 1-0 defeat against Bournemouth means that the club has managed just one win in the last five matches. This poor run of form has pushed them level on points behind Reading, who occupy the final play-off place with only a few months left on the campaign. Despite this poor result, manager Gary Bowyer has stated that he will not press the panic button just yet.

Blackburn are in the second season in the second division of English football after being relegated due to poor management recently. They are looking to get back into the Premier league, as they believe that a club of their size should be playing in the top division. The season started well for the club, but the last few weeks have been very disappointing. Apart from the 1-0 win over Reading, they have had a few things to celebrate in the last five matches. The fans had to witness yet another poor showing from the players after they lost 1-0 to a team just a few places below them in the table.

“We’ve got 12 games left to play in now and until it’s mathematically impossible, you keep striving to get as high as you can and hopefully into the play-offs. It’s important now that we regroup, we stay calm and we stick together. We’ve worked hard to get stability into this club. These last three games – we’ve got to make sure we stop that, obviously – but there’s no need to panic or anything daft like that. We haven’t made their goalkeeper work enough,” said the Blackburn manager.
